-Most interesting Homestay interview-
I interviewed my host mother. She was born in Vancouver, but her family is from China.
After the interview, I could know about the differences between Japan and other countries.
Q1. What is the work ethic like in your country? Do people work hard, or is there a good work-life balance?
A. As far as she knows her parents and her generation have a strong work ethic and work very hard. Sometimes they do not have a good work-life balance.
→ I was interested in the Chinese style of work because sometimes they do not have a good work-life balance.
Q2. What kind of rights do the citizens have?
A. In Canada, we have free healthcare. Public education is free for elementary school and high school. We have freedom of speech but for example, during covid, it did not feel as free.
→ I thought that Canadian rights are good because they can have free healthcare and free education. I want Japan to do the same things.
Q3. What are your country’s cultural values? Why?
A. She does not think that everyone in Canada shares the same cultural values. Everybody is very different. So, some people think making money and being successful are very important, but others do not. Sometimes people say they value something, but their actions show otherwise.
→ I was interested in this opinion. In Japan, people value the larger society as a group. So, I thought it is a different idea between Canada and Japan.
